NABSE hosts and organizes numerous conferences and events throughout the year. They are listed below.
Held
every November, this event attracts nearly 4,000 conferees for four
days of inspiring plenary sessions, school tours, informative presentations
and educational workshops. The conference includes an exhibition area
with more than 200 vendors of educational products and services.
The NABSE Annual Conference is also the site of the Annual Hall of
Fame Awards, honoring outstanding African Americans in the field of
education and those who have made indelible contributions to the African
American community.
An intensive
two-day conference held every spring in Washington, D.C., NEPI addresses
critical issues in education that impact African American educators
and students. Attendees meet on Capitol Hill for a legislative update
from Congressional members and later convene in smaller breakout sessions
with state and federal education officials, researchers, White House
staffers and others to develop strategies and recommendations to assist
NABSE in its mission.
The African American Youth Leadership Summits are NABSE initiatives that were developed to create activities that will Mentor, Educate and Nurture African American young men and women so that they may become productive and positive adults. Young men and women from grades 8-10 convene from all over the country on the campus of Prairie View A&M University & Bennett College during the summer to engage in the following:
Interactive presentations on critical leadership, etiquette, communication and life skills
Exploration of the personal, social, emotional and spiritual conditions that inhibit and/or enhance each individual young person's journey towards adulthood
Introduce the young men and women to unique and engaging approaches to learning as it relates to the 3Rs
Comprehensive University Tour that exposes students to a variety of different career options that are available to them
