Dr.
Michael E. Glascoe

Dr. Michael E. Glascoe joined the Paterson Public School system
as State District Superintendent in July, 2005. As Paterson's twenty-fifth
Superintendent of schools, he oversees the third largest and most
culturally diverse district in New Jersey, with 25,000 students attending
over 50 city schools.
Dr. Glascoe began his career in education at the Montgomery County
Public Schools in Maryland. He served this district for 28 years,
working at the school and administration level as a physical education
teacher, guidance counselor and principal of a middle school and
a high school. His accomplishments in these roles led to his appointment
in 1993 to District Director of School Administration, where he supervised
three K-12 district clusters and over 30,000 students.
In 1999, Dr. Glascoe was appointed Area Superintendent of the Fairfax
County Public School System in Virginia. Subsequently, he became
the District's Regional Superintendent, responsible for 125 Schools,
and Assistant Superintendent of Educational Accountability, where
he supervised the Department of Educational Accountability, comprised
of the Offices of Student Testing, Program Evaluation, Educational
Planning and Minority Student Achievement.
A graduate of DC Teachers' College in Washington, D.C., Dr. Glascoe
completed his Masters of Arts in Teaching at Trinity College and
earned his doctorate degree from Nova Southeastern University. In
2002, he was in the first graduating class of the Broad Urban Superintendents
Academy. Dr. Glascoe served as President-Elect of the Montgomery
County Alliance of Black School Educators and President of the Maryland
State Affiliate of the National Alliance of Black School Educators.
He has taught graduate-level courses on School Administration and
Leadership at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland and Educational
Research at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Dr. Glascoe
and his wife, Laura, have 5 daughters and 3 grandchildren.
