The National Alliance of Black School Educators will convene the National Education Policy Institute (NEPI) to address the theme, "Saving the Soul of Public Education." In an era driven by the language of accountability, standards and choice and an era marred by inquities in students' opportunity to learn and achieve, the words of Thomas Jefferson take an added meaning for those who advocate for universal and free education for all of America's children. Jeffeseron is reported to have stated, We should build an aristocracy of achievement based on an democracy of opportunity.
