Anthony A. Fears, Ph.D.
Dr. Anthony A. Fears is an experienced educator with over twenty (20) years of service in PK-12 education as a principal, assistant superintendent of human resources and labor relations, chief executive manager of management services (facilities, security, food services, transportation), and chief academic officer. Dr. Fears is currently a member of the faculties at Coppin State University and the University of Phoenix, Maryland Campus.
As principal in 2002, his first year, Math proficiency improved impressively from 53.64% in 2002 to 72.8% in 2004. In 2004 48% of his students were proficient in Reading and 72% achieved proficiency in Math which exceeded the City' annual % proficiency targets of 41.92% in Reading and 48.67% in Math. The percentage of students Below Basic were reduced from 34% in 2002 down to 23% in 2004 and continued downward in 2005. During his administration, his school achieved NCLB Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) for four (4) consecutive years. His school was selected by NASA as the first NASA Explorer School in the School District, and one of the first 50 in the U.S.
Dr. Fears is the 2004 Marcus Foster Distinguished Educator of the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE).
